The Velay
Located around Le Puy-en-Velay basin, this region is characterised by :
• The extraordinary town of Le Puy-en-Velay, with its 35 hectare conservation area and cathedral, classed as a Unesco World Heritage site. It was the starting point of the Via Podensis, one of the pilgrim routes to Santiago de Compostella.
• Large swathes of countryside dotted with villages typical of the Mézenc plateau and the last remaining thatched cottages.
• The Loire Gorges and the first châteaux built upon its banks, little country roads and many tracks for hiking or riding.
